Scotland legend Stuart Hogg caught a lot of rugby supporters by surprise after he announced his retirement from rugby by the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

Hogg who has more than 100 test caps for Scotland sprung many surprises on many unsuspecting defences in his time, but in announcing his retirement, he delivered a wow-factor moment to rank with any other in his 13-year test career.

The 30-year-old made his international debut at the age of 19 and has gone on to become a household name and a talented player Scotland has produced in the world of rugby.

He has been quietly effective rather than barnstormingly brilliant this season with Blair Kinghorn being a ready-made replacement in the post-Hogg era.

Hogg will have one last hurrah in France before hanging up his rugby boots.

Scotland will take on the Springboks at 3.45am on the 11th of this month in their first RWC pool game.

The RWC kicks off next Saturday with host France taking on the All Blacks at 7.15am.
