Fiji-born Crusaders winger, Sevu Reece has become the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific’s top try scorer after scoring his 66th try to help the Crusaders beat the Highlanders 15-12 in a tightly contested Battle of the South Island in Christchurch last night.
Reece scored a converted try in the 14th minute of the match which extended the Crusaders’ lead to 10-0.
The 28-year-old has surpassed former Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara, who was tied at 65 tries with Reece before the match.
The Crusaders led 10-5 at halftime.
The Highlanders had a strong comeback in the second half and took a 12-10 lead after flyhalf Taine Robinson scored a converted try.
The home side managed to score an unconverted try in the 71st minute through tighthead prop Tamaiti Williams to help them regain the lead.
A last-minute penalty kick from Highlanders replacement playmaker Cam Millar went wide which helped the Crusaders secure the win.
In another match last night, the Hurricanes edged the Reds 31-27.
Meanwhile, tonight the Moana Pasifika will play the Chiefs at 7.05 and the Force will face the Waratahs at 9.35.
