All Blacks captain Kieran Read is expected to soon ink a two‑year extension but New Zealand Rugby is realistic about the prospect of retaining a headline group of stars who come off contract after next year's British and Irish Lions tour.
Read's contract expires at the end of next season but he has already made intentions clear that he wants to lead the All Blacks to the next World Cup in 2019.
Since assuming the captaincy mantle on a full‑time basis from Richie McCaw this season, Read has won five successive tests against Wales and Australia.
Meanwhile, the All Blacks will play Argentina in the Rugby Championship at 7.35pm this Saturday.
