Racing 92 appear to be shopping around for a successor to Dan Carter with Springboks star Pat Lambie reportedly in their sights.
The 35‑year‑old Carter is in the final year of his lucrative deal with the glamour Paris club.
French media outlets reported that Racing 92 had already signed the 26‑year‑old Lambie to a three year deal and there were follow‑ups in South African media.
The player denied inking any deal, saying he first had to get a medical clearance to return to the game after suffering two major concussions over the last year, one for the Springboks in his 56th test and another for the Sharks during Super Rugby.
Lambie is a versatile player who can play at first‑five, fullback and even in the midfield but his preferred position is at No 10.
Racing have had a busy time on the transfer market, bringing in nine new players and releasing 13, including former All Black Chris Masoe who has finally retired.
They still have fellow All Blacks Joe Rokocoko, Anthony Tuitavake and Casey Laulala in their squad along with Carter.
