Brieanna Cama Rabakewa a Year 10 student at Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi, who got disqualified last year at the Coca-Cola Games but continued to train and qualified for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands and won a bronze medal, is ready for redemption at this year’s Coca-Cola Games.

Rabakewa had qualified to take part in the intermediate girls shot put and discus events last year and was disqualified in the shot put event, which affected her mental preparation for her discus event.

She built herself after the Coca-Cola Games disqualification last year to come strong this year and hopefully, win a medal for her school and family.

Her father, Akariva Rabakewa told fijivillage News that his daughter did well at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands where she threw her personal best of 42.57 metres, further than the Coca-Cola Games record for the intermediate and senior girls record.

Akariva says he had to build her a discus pitch beside their home in Nadi for training purposes.

He says former national athletics reps Peni Tubakibau and Mustafa Fall are currently helping her with her training.

He adds before the Pacific Games last year, her daughter took part in the Queensland State Champions and won gold in the discus which was a major improvement from her 4th placing in Brisbane.

When questioned by fijivillage News on who is her current threat at the Coca-Cola Games, Rabakewa says a student from Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School has been breaking records from the junior grade last year and will compete with her at the intermediate grade this year.

He says they are looking forward to healthy competition this year and hopes the best athlete wins.

The Coca-Cola Games will be held from this Thursday to Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium.
