Fiji-born Japanese winger Jone Naikabula played an instrumental role for his Japan side helping them secure a 55-28 victory over Canada in their first pool match of the Asahi Pacific Nations Cup this morning.

Naikabula started on the right wing and scored a try in the 67th minute of the game.

The 30-year-old ran 110 metres in 8 carries, making 1 line break and beating 2 defenders.

In defence, Naikabula made a total of 10 tackles, completing 8 of them which included 1 dominant tackle.

Another Fiji-born player, Sanaila Waqa, also featured for Japan this morning starting at lock.

Waqa won 3 lineout throws, made 3 offloads and won two turnovers.

In defence, Waqa made 9 tackles and did not miss any.

Japan now leads their pool after that win with 5 points followed by Canada and USA who are yet to play a game.

In pool A, the Fiji Water Flying Fijians are currently leading the pool with 5 points after their 42-16 win over Samoa last Friday.

They will be on a bye this weekend and will take on Tonga next Friday in Tonga.
