The Naitasiri Warriors team beat Wainimala Raiders 22-18 to become the new Under 19 Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League Pherrus Trophy champions at Prince Charles Park in Nadi

Naitasiri Secondary School Principal, Joseva Chale told fijivillage News that their aim this year was to win the U19 title and they have fulfilled it.

Chale says despite their lack of rugby kits it does not take away the focus of the girls.

He says whatever resources they have, it caters for them throughout the season and today's victory is a result of their dedication.

Team Captain, Etelia Rokosenibulu Nakalevu says discipline was their main weakness last week, and they have been working on addressing that area.

Nakalevu acknowledged the girls’ hard work and commitment which led to the win.

She also acknowledged the supporters, teachers and parents for their endless support.

Naitasiri led 6-4 at half-time.

The Warriors tries were scored by Vetinia Digia, Elenoa Ranadi and Adi Salote Nailolo, while Ivamere Tunidau, Mere Baidrau and Kelera Sauvana scored for the Raiders.

On hand to present the trophy was the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Lynda Tabuya reaffirming the government's commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in all facets of society, including sports.

Tabuya also acknowledged Wainimala Secondary School for the sterling effort displayed during the final, adding that the success of the Naitasiri Warriors School Girls Rugby League Team exemplifies the limitless potential of women and girls when given the opportunity to thrive and excel.

She also took the opportunity to meet with school students and their families as well as supporters that were at the games venue.
