Viliame Mata’s mother Aliti Mata says she was jumping and crying in joy at the ANZ Stadium after referee Rasta Rashi-venge awarded the last try in the Rio 7's final that was scored by her son.

Aliti told Fijivillage that she decided to go and watch the game at the stadium as she knew she may damage their TV because of the excitement and she wanted to watch the game on the big screen.

She says Viliame’s father who works in Iraq had also watched the game in Iraq and after the final he called her to express his joy and told her that he was jumping in his room after the final.

Aliti says they have always followed Mata playing rugby whether it was in Kaji rugby, for Suva Grammar School or for Ratu Kadavulevu School.

Aliti added that Viliame is the youngest of four siblings.

His father is also coming from Iraq for the national celebrations.
