Australian Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga has apologised to angry forward Sam Thaiday for failing to phone and advise him of his axing from the national side for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Thaiday ripped into his former Queensland coach on Instagram last night, saying he expected "a bit more decency and respect" after 10 years of service in the green and gold.

Meninga says it was a complete and honest oversight and he has called Thaiday to apologise.

Meninga believes that Thaiday feels unwanted and that his club the Broncos are also considering the fact of letting him go next year.

Meanwhile Thaiday also received a vicious backlash from some fans, who told him that representing your country is a privilege, not a right. He was also criticised for not picking up the phone himself to have it out with Meninga.

The Kangaroos will be coming to Fiji next week to take on the Vodafone Fiji Bati and the PNG Kumuls at the ANZ Stadium.

Meanwhile the Battle of the Bati will start at 3pm Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
