The Hurricanes have today confirmed that assistant coach John Plumtree will take over the reigns as head coach after the 2018 season with Chris Boyd leaving for English club Northampton Saints.

52-year-old Plumtree has been a key member of the Hurricanes coaching staff, working as an assistant to Boyd for the last three seasons, helping the Wellington side to their first Super Rugby title back in 2016.

In a media release this morning, the club also said fellow assistant Jason Holland will retain his role, working as Plumtree's deputy from next season onwards, with the pair contracted until the end of the 2021 season.

The Highlanders will meet the Stormers at 6.35pm this Friday while the Rebels will face the Brumbies at 8.45pm.

On Saturday, the Hurricanes will meet the Crusaders at 6.35pm while the Reds will meet Bulls at 8.45pm.
