Italy to use rush defence to stifle Flying Fijians backline

Italy to use rush defence to stifle Flying Fijians backline
Flying Fijians five eighth Ben Volavola in training

Italy will try and disrupt the running rugby that the Vodafone Flying Fijians are known for with their rushing defence but coach John McKee has been reminding his players to think outside their set plays.

Italy will try to nullify the strong Fijian forwards and put pressure on their backline.

McKee believes they have some structure to counter whatever Italy is bringing.

Over the past years, the Flying Fijians have been scoring some brilliant tries through their backs with offloads and pace out wide.

But the Italians have been scoring their tries through their rolling mauls and strong scrums which they are known for.

This will also be a big test for Suva prop, Kalivati Tawake who made his debut against the Wallabies last week as he will go up against Andrea Lovotti who has won all 13 of his caps as a starter and is now one of the best props in the Six Nations competition.

The Flying Fijians will host Italy at 2.30pm at the ANZ Stadium and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station Viti FM 92.2FM.

Meanwhile today, Wales will play Tonga at 5.30pm while the All Blacks will take on Samoa at 8pm.

Tomorrow, the Wallabies will host Scotland at 5pm while Japan will take on Ireland at 5pm.
