New All Blacks and Chiefs winger Emoni Narawa confessed to nerves throughout the week before his debut against Argentina, but they were long gone after scoring his first test try for the All Blacks in their 41-12 victory in Mendoza, Argentina.
The 23-year-old finished the test as the All Blacks’ top carrier, with 79 metres made, two defenders beaten and a clean line break.
Narawa says it was quite special, like a dream come true running out the tunnel and all those emotions that came in at the final whistle.
He says he was quite nervous the whole week, but he had experienced players all around him who advised him to be himself and enjoy the moment.
Narawa is now in prime position to follow in the footsteps of Nehe Milner-Skudder, Waisake Naholo and Sevu Reece in turning a superb Super Rugby campaign into a spot in the All Blacks’ Rugby World Cup squad.
The All Blacks now face the long trip back to New Zealand, where an advance party of a dozen Springboks are already preparing for the test at Mt Smart Stadium this Saturday.
The All Blacks will take on South Africa at 7.05pm in the second round of the Rugby Championship while Argentina will take on Australia at 9.45pm Saturday.
