India wins first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, beats South Africa by 52 runs

India created history by winning their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

The final was played in front of a packed, cheering crowd and, despite a two-hour rain delay, no overs were lost.

India batted first and scored 298 for 7, with Shafali Verma leading the way with 87 runs off 78 balls and Deepti Sharma adding 58.

South Africa fought hard, with captain Laura Wolvaardt scoring 101 runs off 98 balls.

However, her dismissal through a brilliant catch by Amanjot Kaur off Deepti Sharma turned the game in India’s favour.

South Africa were eventually all out for 246.

After losing three group matches earlier in the tournament, India made a remarkable comeback to lift the trophy.

The victory is a historic moment for Indian Women’s Cricket and has sparked celebrations across the nation.
