Hurricanes uses drone to improve scrum techniques

Officially, Dan Cron is the Hurricanes' scrum coach and to do his job as well as he wants to, Cron has had to become the Super Rugby champions' drone operator as well.

Initially sourced to provide footage of scrums, mauls and lineouts, the drone now shoots every minute of the team's practice sessions, proving particularly useful to backs coach Jason Holland.

Cron says that the biggest issue with scrums at the moment is that tightheads can actually do a lot of damage now and looseheads will swing their torsos out and, watching it live or from the side, you can't actually see that.

He adds that some players, the last thing they want to do after a game is watch it again and other boys are actually in the shed on the iPad straight away.

Hurricanes will start off their title defence in Tokyo against the Sunwolves on the 25th of next month.

The 2017 Super Rugby season kicks off on the 23rd of next month with the Melbourne Rebels hosting the Blues.
