The much-anticipated fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk this month has been postponed due to Fury suffering an injury with an open cut on his right eye that required urgent medical attention.

The fight was scheduled to take place on the 17th of this month in Saudi Arabia in the ‘Ring of Fire’ promotion but the unfortunate accident has put the fight on hold.

Fury suffered the cut while sparring with a Croatian heavyweight who caught his eye with his elbow during training in Riyadh yesterday.

Fury says he is absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such a superb condition.

He says he feels bad for everyone involved in this huge event and he will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.

The WBC champion says he can only apologise to everyone affected including his own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as the hosts and his friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Fury says he can't help getting injured in sparring but what he can say is that Usyk was in trouble because he is in fantastic shape.

Meanwhile, the winner of any rescheduled fight between Fury and Usyk stands to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first in the four-belt era.
