Western Force and Melbourne Rebels are still unsure whether their final round Super Rugby matches this weekend will be their last in the competition.
The teams displayed unity when they joined in a huddle after playing in Perth on Saturday.
This post‑match huddle provided the most telling reminder of the awkward situation both teams face.
The Australian Rugby Union held informal talks with the Rebels last week and face an arbitration hearing on July 31 over the alliance agreement they signed last year.
Western Force also say the agreement entitles them to be in the competition until 2020.
In the Super Rugby this weekend, the Highlanders take on the Reds at 7.35pm Friday, the Sunwolves play the Blues at 3.05pm Saturday, the Chiefs take on the Brumbies at 5.15pm, the Hurricanes play the Crusaders at 7.35pm Saturday while the Sharks play the Lions at 3.15am Sunday.
