The Fiji Water Flying Fijians could move up the World Rugby rankings to ninth if things go their way this weekend.

For that to happen, the Simon Raiwalui coached side will have to win their game against Japan tomorrow night and hope that England beats Wales.

Wales who are currently ninth in the rankings with Fiji one place below in tenth could switch positions.

This is a stark contrast to exactly four years ago when Wales were ranked the best team in the world after they won the 2019 Grand Slam and went on to beat England in a summer World Cup warm-up match.

Wales have been as low as tenth in the world three times before, most recently as a few months ago when they lost to England in the Six Nations.

Wales open their Rugby World Cup campaign against Fiji in Bordeaux on September 11.

Fiji have dominated the Punjas Pacific Battle Series so far where they have beaten Tonga 36-20, and Samoa 33-19.

Wales' other World Cup group opponents Australia are currently in eighth spot while Georgia and Portugal are 11th and 16th, respectively.
