Fijiana starts Dubai 7s campaign with a 30-12 loss to Ireland

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side started their HSBC Dubai 7s campaign on a low after suffering a 30-12 loss to Ireland in their first pool match this afternoon.

Fiji took an early 7-0 lead in the first half following a converted try to Vika Nakacia in the 3rd minute before Ireland came back strongly and scored 3 unconverted tries just before halftime to lead 15-7 at the break.

Ireland started the second spell strongly and scored three more unconverted tries to extend their lead to 30-7 before Fiji scored a consolation unconverted try at the stroke of fulltime through Ilisapeci Delaiwau.

Fijiana now turns their focus to their second pool match against Australia at 9.05pm tonight.

In other matches that have been played so far in the women’s category, Japan thrashed Canada 40-5, NZ thumped Brazil 33-5, the USA defeated Great Britain 26-15, Spain defeated France 24-12 and Australia thrashed China 52-0.
