The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side has fallen short at the HSBC Singapore 7s after losing 33-22 to NZ Blackferns 7s in the first Women’s semi final this afternoon.

NZ took advantage of Fiji’s mistakes early in the first half to score 4 quick tries and three conversions through Stacey Waaka, Jorja Miller, Michaela Blyde and Risi Pouri-Lane.

Fiji hit back just before halftime to score an unconverted try to Ilisapeci Delaiwau to trail 26-5 at the break.

Captain Raijieli Daveua scored Fiji’s second try early in the second spell with a successful conversion before Blyde scored her second try of the match for NZ to extend their lead to 33-12.

Fiji scored two more converted tries through Laisani Likuceva and Delaiwau for the final score.

In the second Women’s semi final, Australia defeated France 19-12.

Fiji will play France in the Women’s 3rd place playoff at 8.38 tonight, while Australia will take on New Zealand at 9.41 tonight in the final.
