FRU clarifies jersey number issues during PNC final against Japan

The issue of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians’ jersey numbers coming off during the final of the Pacific Nations Cup was due to poor workmanship by a local company engaged in Salt Lake City, and not a reflection of the quality of the jerseys supplied by our official kit provider, Umbro.

This has been clarified by the Fiji Rugby Union this morning.

They say they understand the public interest in this matter and appreciate the passion supporters bring to the game however, it is important that all facts are considered before drawing conclusions.

FRU says immediately following the match, Fiji Rugby communicated with World Rugby to report the issue, with confirmation from team management.

FRU says Umbro commitment to quality and professionalism has been consistently demonstrated through successful partnerships with elite teams around the world.

Fiji Rugby says they stand by the integrity of its sponsors and values the trust placed in these relationships.

Fiji Rugby Acting CEO Koli Sewabu says national team jerseys are sent without numbers, as player selections, positions, and sizes are only finalized a few days before game day and this is standard practice for touring international teams and once the team is confirmed, managers proceed with numbering locally.

Further questions have been sent to the FRU.
