The Fiji National Rugby League is waiting for confirmation from the government that they're prepared to back plans to stage a series of NRL matches in Suva over the next three NRL seasons.
It is anticipated such a move would also encourage commercial sponsors to back the country's ongoing bid for a place in the New South Wales Cup, following the lead set by the PNG Hunters in Queensland's Intrust Super Cup competition.
FNRL's Chief Executive Timoci Naleba says they would like to lock in NRL fixtures through to the end of the decade, and provide a timely boost for a sport that is still growing in Fiji.
Meanwhile the Australian Kangaroos and PNG Kumuls will be playing against the Fiji Bati on October 14 at the ANZ Stadium before the Rugby League World Cup kicks off on October 27.
Looking at the NRL match this week, Waqa Blake and the Panthers will take on Marcelo Montoya and the Bulldogs at 9.50pm Thursday.
