Wallabies first five‑eighth Quade Cooper has signed a three‑year contract with the Australian Rugby Union and the Queensland Reds, confirming his return after a season with French club Toulon.
The agreement takes the New Zealand‑born playmaker through until the end of the 2019 rugby World Cup in Japan.
The 28‑year‑old Cooper re‑joined the Wallabies ahead of the Rugby Championship and started at first five‑eighth in last weekend’s second Bledisloe Cup test defeat by the All Blacks in Wellington.
Cooper says that playing at the highest level for the Wallabies against the best teams, week in and week out is the ultimate, and it will always be the pinnacle of the sport.
Meanwhile Wallabies coach Michael Cheika says Cooper would bring his “trademark flair and x‑factor"” to the team.
Cheika adds that Cooper would also add a wiser approach to the way the team is led around the field of play.
The Wallabies play South Africa at 10.05pm next Sunday.
Meanwhile All Blacks play Argentina at 7.35pm next Saturday.
