Baleinadogo becomes first Fijian in France Women’s RWC squad

Fiji-born backrower Makarita Baleinadogo has been named in the France Women’s final 32-member squad for the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in England later this month.

The 23-year-old was a last minute inclusion into the squad following an injury in the team camp.

The Tailevu woman currently plays for Stade Bordelais in the French Elite 1 championship.

Baleinadogo is the daughter of former Flying Fijians outside back Daniele Baleinadogo.

Makarita moved to France in 2010 and began playing rugby around 2015, starting with AS Macon and then CS Annonay, following her father’s footsteps.

She had represented France in the U18s and U20s level, and she will be looking to be the first Fijian female rugby player to represent France on the international arena.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup will be held from the 22nd of this month to the 27th of September 2025.
