Samoa Head coach Alama Ieremia's resignation has been accepted by the Samoa Rugby Union after the team suffered four successive defeats.
The former All Black and Samoa midfield back announced at the weekend he was stepping aside after they finished last in the Pacific Nations Cup.
The most recent defeat was the most galling as Manu Samoa lost 38‑16 to Fiji in Apia last month, which saw them slip to 16th in the world rankings ‑ their lowest since the system was introduced in 2003.
It meant Fiji and Tonga qualified automatically for the 2019 World Cup while Samoa face a repechage against a second‑tier European nation to book their spot in Japan.
Ieremia was Stephen Betham's assistant before taking over as head coach after the 2015 World Cup.
In 10 tests in charge Ieremia had just two wins, over Tonga and Canada last year.
Ieremia was Hurricanes assistant coach for five years before taking the Samoa assistant's role in 2014.
