Adi Maopa Secondary School athletics team finished off from the Maritime Zone yesterday with 7 gold medals to round off the final lap of preparations ahead of the Coca-Cola games next week.
Speaking to Fijivillage, team manager Vuniani Vasu says that the team went through a lot of hardships and challenges with preparations ahead of the games.
He adds that the team started off with nothing and the athletes would train without proper training gear back in Vanuabalavu.
Vasu says that the biggest financial challenge was getting the athletes into Suva as the school had to raise funds through a mufti to pay for their boat trip.
Meanwhile Adi Maopa team captain Setareki Kama says that they are hoping to stamp their mark in the games even with the little resources they had to train with.
The Coca-Cola games will begin next Thursday at the ANZ Stadium.
