A 9-year-old girl Tanvi Prasad created history in chess as she beat a Swaziland player in only 9 moves which is a national record for Fiji in terms of the fastest win recorded in a world chess championship by a local rep.
Prasad who is a year 5 student at Deenbandhoo Memorial Primary School was the youngest ever participant from the South Pacific.
Tanvi’s father Ravikesh Prasad says Tanvi started learning and playing chess when she was 5-years-old and played her first competitive chess game when their family was staying in Canberra for a year.
He says her achievements have made the family proud as they were surprised when she was selected in the national team.
