15-year-old basketball player Nyssa Daunivalu says the support of her family helps her overcome difficult moments as she prepares to represent Fiji at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
Originally from Gau, the St Joseph's Secondary School student says she sometimes feels demoralised after a bad game or training session.
She says the support and encouragement of her family helps her overcome these challenges and stay motivated to keep improving as a player.
Daunivalu says preparations for the Games are going well, with the team working hard and building on the chemistry developed during last year’s Under-17 Championship in Newcastle.
She says the players are familiar with one another’s playing styles, which has helped them work well together.
The 15-year-old also balances her basketball commitments with schoolwork by setting aside two hours to study after school before attending training.
Daunivalu has thanked those supporting her journey and encouraged other young people who dream of playing basketball to keep working hard and pursuing their goals.
The 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from October 30 to November 13.
