Following last weekend’s Vancouver 7s, the HSBC SVNS World Series is now halfway through its revamped inaugural season and while Argentina’s men and Australia’s women have set the pace at the top of the table in their respective categories, this is proving to be one of the most competitive seasons yet.

In the women’s tournament, both the title winners and bronze medallists from the previous round in Perth – Ireland and Great Britain – failed to qualify for the Cup quarter-finals, which featured two teams from the bottom four in Brazil and Spain.

It was a similar story in the men’s tournament as Perth silver medallists, Australia finished 10th and Great Britain and Samoa did their survival hopes no harm by reaching the quarter-finals.

With only a five-day turnaround before the fun starts all over again in Los Angeles, fans should be expecting another thrilling weekend of rugby sevens this week.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side will play Great Britain at 2.54pm Saturday in their first pool match, they will then take on Canada at 5.30am Sunday, before playing France at 10.22am Sunday in their last pool match.

The men’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 3.26pm Sunday, the semi finals will be at 10.08am Monday and the final will be at 2.32pm Monday.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will take on Brazil at 1.14pm Saturday in their first pool match, they will then play South Africa at 8.26am Sunday, before playing New Zealand at 1.24pm Sunday in their final pool match.

The women’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 6.14am Monday, the semi finals will begin at 9.24am Monday and the final will be at 1.43pm Monday.
