2 teams expected to be cut from the Super Rugby competition

Two teams are expected to be cut from the Super Rugby competition.

The Owner of the Cheetahs Super Rugby team, Harold Verster told South African media the competition would be reduced from 18 to 16 teams.

A decision was reportedly made at a Sanzaar meeting held last week.

It was reported New Zealand Rugby went to the meeting with a strong position to cut one Australian and two South African teams.

The Sunwolves could replace an Australian team which might make a conference of five sides.

The Australian Rugby Union has remained tight‑lipped on the future of Australian teams despite speculation about the Force, Brumbies or Rebels being cut from the competition.
