Former All Blacks captain and double Rugby World Cup winner Sam Whitelock will return to international rugby for one last time and this time for the Barbarians when they play the Fiji Water Flying Fijians next Sunday in Twickenham.
Whitelock announced his professional retirement in April this year and played his final game for Pau yesterday scoring a try in the process.
But now the 35-year-old will now extend his career by another two weeks.
Whitelock will also be teaming up with fellow Crusaders legend Robbie Deans who will be coaching the side.
Though it will be Whitelock’s last match of his career, it will be the first time he will run out for the BaaBaas.
Whitelock says he has always wanted to represent the Barbarians, so he is delighted that now he has the opportunity to do it.
He says he can not wait to experience a week with the BaaBaas, and it’s very exciting for him to be doing something for the first time after such a long career in rugby so far.
He adds the Barbarians is a selected group where you have to be invited to play, and for him to get that invitation now is very humbling.
The Barbarians will take on the Flying Fijians at 2am next Sunday.
