Defending champions Stratum/Lincoln Rewa have made a commanding start to their FMF Inter-District Championship title defence, thrashing Nasinu 5-0 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva this afternoon.
Ramzan Khan, Josaia Sela and Epeli Valevou scored a goal each for Rewa, while Merrill Nand scored twice.
Rewa Assistant Coach Priyant Mannu says his side must improve its finishing ahead of tomorrow’s match against Labasa.
Mannu says the team was determined to start the tournament on a positive note, knowing the importance of the opening match.
He says the team missed more than five opportunities and will need to be more clinical against Labasa.
The coach also revealed that the team deliberately gave game time to its bench players in the second half as part of its plan to rotate the squad ahead of tomorrow’s fixture.
Rewa finished the match with 10 men after substitute Neemish Prasad was shown a red card in the 71st minute.
Earlier, Navua defeated Nadi 3-0, with Walter Leoru scoring a hat-trick.
The match between Ba and Lautoka is currently underway.
The official opening of the FMF IDC will be held at 7.30pm, followed by Labasa taking on hosts Suva at 8pm.
