However, with 18 minutes remaining, City finally found the breakthrough through a brilliant piece of play that changed the game.
The goal was enough to hand City the victory and end their run of recent final defeats.
For Chelsea, the loss was another disappointment as they suffered a fourth straight FA Cup final defeat and missed out on silverware this season.
