Cold mornings no match for young swimmer Thaddeus Kwong's determination

Cold mornings no match for young swimmer Thaddeus Kwong's determination

Waking up early and getting into a cold swimming pool has been one of the biggest challenges for 17-year-old Thaddeus Kwong, as he prepares to represent Fiji at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

However, the young swimmer says his determination and the support of his family continue to motivate him as he prepares to compete on the international stage.

Kwong, who is from Bucalevu and has maternal links to Motusa in Rotuma, says he is both nervous and excited about representing Fiji at the Games.

He says preparations have been going well, with his training now entering its final week of reduced intensity ahead of the competition.

Kwong says waking up early for training has not always been easy, particularly on cold mornings when getting into the pool requires extra motivation.

However, he says the encouragement and support he receives from his family help him push through those challenges.

The 17-year-old has already gained international experience, having represented Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau last year.

Kwong is also encouraging other young people to work hard, give their best and have faith in God as they pursue their dreams.

He thanks his parents, friends and family in Australia for their continued encouragement and support.

The Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, begins today and will run until 13th November.
