Wests Tigers trio boost Fiji Bati's confidence ahead of crucial New Zealand clash
From Api Koroisau's leadership to Solomone Saukuru's finishing ability, the Wests Tigers trio are playing a key role in the Vodafone Fiji Bati's Rugby League World Cup campaign.

Add Sunia Turuva's impressive 300 running metres, and the Tigers' influence is helping build Fiji's confidence ahead of their crucial clash against New Zealand for a place in the semi-finals.

The Bati went toe-to-toe with world champions Australia at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night and threatened to cause a major upset before the Kangaroos secured a 36-22 victory.

Despite the loss, Fiji's performance against Australia has raised eyebrows, according to coach Mick Potter, who is now focused on today's clash against New Zealand on the Gold Coast.

Potter says the players showed courage and proved they can compete against the best.

He says Fiji remain in contention, but their upcoming match against New Zealand will be a massive challenge.

After scoring two tries in the tournament opener against the Cook Islands, 21-year-old Saukuru again showed flashes of brilliance against the Kangaroos.

Saukuru burst onto the NRL scene with two tries on debut against the Dragons in Round 24 before scoring again in the Tigers' upset victory over the Roosters in Round 25.

He has already scored four tries in four Test matches and is enjoying the opportunity to represent Fiji alongside his club captain, Koroisau.

Saukuru says wearing the Bati jersey means a lot because he is representing his family, village and people back home.

He says Koroisau has been a great leader and has played an important role in his development, including setting up his first NRL try.

Saukuru adds that playing alongside Koroisau at club level has helped strengthen their combination when they come together for international duties.

Although the Bati fell short against Australia, their performance has strengthened the belief within the squad.

Koroisau says Fiji's determination and willingness to support one another were key factors in their performance against the Kangaroos.

He believes the Bati were still in contention during the final 10 to 15 minutes and showed what they are capable of when representing their country.

Koroisau says the belief within the team will continue to grow as they prepare to face New Zealand.

The Fiji Bati will take on New Zealand at 4.30pm today at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast, with a place in the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals at stake.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Bulikula will meet France at 2.20pm today, also for a place in the semi-finals.
