All Blacks legend Dan Carter says the Wallabies should learn from their disastrous 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign rather than forget it as they prepare to host the 2027 tournament.
Carter says New Zealand’s failure at the 2007 World Cup helped the All Blacks identify their mistakes before going on to win in 2011 and 2015.
He believes Australia has the players to challenge any team but says they need confidence, belief and lessons from past failures.
Carter also says playing a World Cup at home can be a major advantage if the Wallabies turn home support into motivation rather than pressure.
Carter and fellow All Blacks great Richie McCaw say the 2027 tournament remains wide open, although South Africa are currently among the strongest contenders.
Wallabies legend George Gregan says Australia has shown encouraging signs, with improved energy, attacking intent and players increasingly playing for each other.
The All Blacks host the Wallabies 7pm next Saturday at Eden Park for their first Bledisloe game.
