Portugal the first team to qualify for Euro 2016 semifinals

Portugal is the first team to reach Euro 2016 semifinals after beating Poland 5-3 on penalties this morning.

The two teams went into extra-time after a 1-1 draw.

Ricardo Quaresma scored the winning spot kick after Poland’s Jakub Blaszczykowski's effort was saved by Rui Patricio.

Robert Lewandowski had fired Poland ahead in the second minute with Renato Sanches equalising through a deflected strike.

Portugal will face Belgium or Wales in semi‑final.

This is the fifth time that Portugal has reached the semifinals of the European Championship finals.

Wales will face Belgium in the second quarterfinal at 7am tomorrow.
