Mother who lost son to cancer says she will back party promising children's cancer hospital
A mother who lost her son to cancer two years ago says she will support a political party in the next election that commits to building a cancer hospital for children in Fiji, saying families should not have to struggle to access treatment overseas.

Miriama Tabua, whose son Isoa Bale lost his battle with muscle cancer two years ago, participated in the WOWS Walk this morning.

She says one of the issues that continues to trouble her is the level of support available for children with cancer, particularly those from low-income families without life insurance.

Tabua says when her family learned that Isoa had an aggressive and uncommon form of cancer, they tried to find ways to send him overseas for treatment and turned to the Government for assistance.

She further says the family was told government assistance was available for children with a 100 percent survival rate, but Isoa did not qualify because of the aggressive nature of his cancer and his low chances of survival.

She adds that she does not want another parent to experience the same pain her family went through when they lost Isoa.

Meanwhile, about 100 people participated in the WOWS Walk at Albert Park this morning.
