Union claims EFL executives received higher pay as workers await wage increases

Concerns have been raised after workers at Energy Fiji Limited represented by the Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji claims they have gone three years without a wage increase while senior executives have received higher remuneration.

In a statement, the union claims recent figures show the total remuneration for EFL's Chief Executive Officer and Executive Management Group increased from $3.309 million in 2024 to $3.756 million in 2025.

The union says its members are still waiting for wage increases for 2024, 2025 and 2026, alleging that EFL has not settled the union's log of claims for those years.

They say the difference in pay raises raises concerns about fairness and equitable treatment of workers, arguing that employees who contribute to EFL's operations should also be fairly compensated.

The union says rewarding senior management while delaying wage settlements for union members affects staff morale and undermines trust.

They are calling on EFL to enter into what it describes as genuine, good-faith negotiations to resolve the outstanding wage claims and reach a fair outcome for its members.

The union says it remains committed to constructive industrial relations but believes wage increases should be distributed fairly and consistently across the organisation rather than benefiting only senior management.

They are also urging EFL's Board and executive leadership to begin negotiations without delay and settle the outstanding claims.

We have sent questions to Energy Fiji Limited.
