Liquor outlets in residential areas are being looked at in Nasinu, with the Town Council considering shutting them down over concerns about their contribution to crime.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Nasinu Town Council Chief Executive Officer Felix Magnus says liquor outlets in residential areas are one of the key contributing factors to crime in the area and that youth are susceptible to them.
Magnus says some young people purchase liquor and, if they do not have money for it, they rob to buy liquor.
He says when drunkenness sets in, more crime is created.
Magnus says he spoke with Commissioner Central, highlighting the issue and the need for it to be raised with the Liquor Tribunal Board.
He says licensing of shops that apply for liquor licences in residential areas should be stopped.
