Miss Shield Security Services, Mere Mafi Sigavunau, has been crowned the 2026 FMF Duavata Crime Prevention Carnival Queen during the crowning night held at Subrail Park in Labasa.
Miss Naqai Taxi and Car Wash, Alice Cerenasiga, was named the first runner-up, while Miss Tanoa Electrical, Adi Varanisese, was awarded second runner-up.
The 18-year-old Shiri Gurunanak Khalsa College student is from Cikobia Island.
Sigavunau says she is committed to raising awareness about domestic violence across the Northern Division.
She says domestic violence remains one of the major issues affecting families in the North, with women and children among the most vulnerable victims.
Sigavunau says children who witness domestic violence often suffer emotional and psychological trauma, making it important for communities to speak up and seek support.
She says she will work closely with communities to advocate against domestic violence, promote child protection, and encourage victims to access available support services.
Sigavunau also highlighted drug abuse as another growing concern among young people in the North.
She says she will use her role to educate and encourage young people to stay away from drugs and make positive choices for a better future.
