Three people, including two lawyers, will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today over allegations involving false Tax Compliance Certificates used to obtain 2026 Practising Certificates.
Police say a 39-year-old female accounts officer from Lautoka has also been charged with two counts of falsification of documents.
A 39-year-old male lawyer from Nadi and a 32-year-old male lawyer from Ba have each been charged with one count of using forged documents.
It is alleged that in February this year, the accounts officer dishonestly altered the Tax Compliance Certificates of the two lawyers, who were employed as legal practitioners at a law firm.
Police allege the documents were altered to help the two lawyers obtain their 2026 Practising Certificates.
It is further alleged that the two lawyers knew the Tax Compliance Certificates were false but submitted them to the Legal Practitioners Unit in Suva to obtain their Practising Certificates.
Police say the charges were sanctioned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
