16-year-old Suka ready to make family and Fiji proud at Youth Olympic Games

Young basketballer Zara Suka is ready to make her family and Fiji proud as she prepares to represent the country at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

Originally from Yadrana, Lakeba, Lau, Suka says her preparations are going well, with the team building strong connections and working together ahead of the Games.

The 16-year-old says her basketball journey began at the age of six, and she has continued to develop her passion for the sport over the past 10 years.

She says one of the challenges she faces as an athlete is learning to put a bad game behind her and focus on the next match.

She has thanked her supporters for their encouragement and says she hopes to continue improving as a player.

Meanwhile, her father, former Fiji Bati player Ratu Suka, says he is extremely proud to see his daughter represent Fiji on the international stage.

He says Zara has been playing basketball for 10 years, and it has been encouraging to watch her growth and development in the sport.
