SPCA Fiji says Police have launched an active investigation into recent reports of severe animal cruelty, with regional teams mobilised in the area where the alleged offence occurred, as the Society awaits the findings and possible arrests of those responsible.
SPCA Fiji says it has formally written to the Assistant Commissioner of Police and other relevant authorities regarding the recent reports.
The Society has commended the Fiji Police Force for its swift response and proactive engagement, particularly the office of Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe.
It says Police management immediately mobilised regional teams in the area where the alleged offence occurred and an active investigation is now underway.
SPCA Fiji says it remains in direct communication with Police as inquiries continue.
It says Police are also providing ongoing updates on other pending animal cruelty cases around the country, including prominent cases in Suva and Labasa.
The Society says it is awaiting the findings of these investigations and subsequent legal action, including possible arrests of those responsible.
SPCA Fiji stresses that intentional cruelty to animals is a serious criminal offence under Fijian law.
It says it will continue working with law enforcement agencies, municipal councils and government ministries to ensure perpetrators are held accountable and to create a safer and more compassionate environment for animals in Fiji.
