Renovation works at the Alpha and Omega Christian Centre in Nakaile Village, Tailevu, were made possible through a donation of $9,852.90 from the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts under the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme.
The grant enabled the church to carry out much-needed renovations, including the replacement of deteriorated roofing and rafters that had weakened over the years and caused several leakages within the building.
The Alpha and Omega Christian Centre was established in 1999 and had not undergone any major renovations for many years.
The Ministry says the completed works have significantly improved the condition, safety and durability of the church building.
While commissioning the newly renovated church, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts Charan Jeath Singh said the completion of the renovation works will provide a safer and more secure environment for devotees using the facility for worship.
He says through the support provided under the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme for 2025/2026, the church was able to replace its old roofing and rafters.
Singh says this is an important improvement that will provide a safer, stronger and more secure environment for the congregation and the wider community that uses the facility.
The Alpha and Omega Christian Centre is a multi-ethnic church that provides a space for people from different backgrounds to come together for prayer, worship, fellowship and other devotional activities.
Approximately 32 families have access to and benefit from the facility.
The Minister says for these families, the church is not simply a building, but a place of faith, fellowship, spiritual development and community connection.
Singh also acknowledged the wider significance of the facility, noting that the church serves as the headquarters of Alpha and Omega in Fiji and has an important role within the wider Alpha and Omega community across the country.
He says the renovation is a good example of the practical community development initiatives supported through the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme.
Singh adds that community and faith-based facilities play an important role in bringing people together, strengthening communities and promoting social cohesion.
