Persistent flooding outside MHCC in Suva continues to cause problems for pedestrians and commuters, particularly people trying to hail taxis during heavy rain.
The area has experienced repeated flooding whenever there is significant rainfall, with the drainage system unable to cope with the water.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Suva City Council CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa says the affected underground drainage was cleared on Tuesday.
He says authorities are now looking at a permanent solution, which may require infrastructure changes.
Boseiwaqa says the Fiji Roads Authority is assessing the required work, while the Water Authority of Fiji may also need to be involved.
He says the Council will need to meet with the two authorities to determine the best long-term solution to address the persistent flooding.
Boseiwaqa says while the drainage has been cleared, more work is needed to prevent the problem from recurring.
