Woman charged with murder and arson over fatal Christmas Eve house fire granted bail
The woman who is alleged to have set fire to a house on Levuka Street, Samabula, on Christmas Eve last year, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Sanjeshni Lata, has been granted bail by the Suva High Court.

Reena Devi Chand is charged with one count of arson and one count of murder.

The State did not object to bail.

Chand appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar this morning.

She is released on strict bail conditions, and will reside with her sister in Naduru, Nausori, has been warned not reoffend by the court, has to visit the Nausori Police Station twice a month and is not to leave Viti Levu.

The court also told her to surrender her passport, which her counsel, Abhay Singh says was also burnt in the fire.

Justice Goundar says there is no proof of this and has warned her that if she gets a new passport, it must be surrendered to the Court.

The matter has been to the 23rd of November.
