With the criminal landscape continuously evolving and the need to repair ageing infrastructure, the Fiji Police Force has made submissions to the Ministry of Finance for an increase in budget allocation for the 2026-2027 financial year.
While responding to questions from fijivillage News, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu says they made a submission following a review of operational efforts this year and projection forecast for the next 6 to 12 months, including the need to repair ageing infrastructure.
He says the criminal landscape is continuously evolving, and this has been factored into the request for increased funding.
The Fiji Police Force was provided an increased funding of $240.3 million in the 2025-2026 National Budget, an increase of $13.5 million from the previous financial year.
The Government had approved increasing the Fiji Police Force by 1,000 officers in two phases at a cost of about $40 million while an additional $8.6 million was also been approved for police salary progression, which is expected to continue.
The 2026-2027 National Budget will be announced at 10am Friday.
