Traditional leaders in west encouraged to help tackle drug threat
The Roko Tui and Turaga ni Koro in the Western Division have been encouraged to work with the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force to address the narcotics threat in the country.
Commander Joint Task Force Brigadier-General Manoa Gadai, Assistant Divisional Police Commissioner West SSP Esira Bari, and the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force West hosted Ministry of iTaukei Affairs officials in the Western Division, including Roko Tui and Turaga ni Koro.

This is part of the government, RFMF and Fiji Police Force’s whole-of-nation approach involving key stakeholders to address the growing narcotics threat in Fiji.

Assistant Divisional Police Commissioner West SSP Esira Bari delivered an address outlining the current narcotics situation in the Western Division and the operational significance of coordinated enforcement, intelligence sharing and community support in disrupting illicit drug activities.

Brigadier-General Gadai emphasised the need for unity in countering narcotics networks, drug abuse and associated criminal activity.

He also highlighted the broader implications of narcotics on national security, public safety, governance, health, wellbeing and community resilience, stressing the need for a whole-of-nation response.
The engagement reinforced that addressing narcotics and associated threats requires a coordinated effort involving government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders and community stakeholders.
