Telecom Fiji says the upgrade will strengthen the main connection between Taveuni and the main land of Vanua Levu, while increasing bandwidth capacity to improve internet and mobile services for customers and communities.
They say that they will also continue upgrading their existing 4G network to 5G as part of their 5G licence requirements.
The company says the network improvements will be carried out progressively to expand coverage, including to remote and rural areas.
They say the rollout is also being supported through the Government's Universal Service Obligation programme, which helps extend telecommunications infrastructure to rural communities.
Telecom Fiji says they remain committed to improving access to reliable internet services, and ensuring more people across Fiji stay connected.
