Taxi Association calls for tougher safety measures after attacks on taxi drivers

The Fiji Taxi Association is calling for tougher safety measures, including increased Police patrols, more checkpoints, in-car cameras and GPS tracking systems, following the assaults of two taxi drivers in Wainibokasi this month.

Association President Mohammed Faiyaz says the incidents are concerning and could happen anywhere in the country, not just in Nausori.

Faiyaz is urging taxi drivers to put their safety first and not pick up passengers if they believe their lives could be at risk.

He says taxi drivers provide an essential service to the public and should not have to face the risk of being assaulted or robbed while carrying out their work.

Meanwhile, Police are investigating the matter and trying to identify the people involved.
